An optometrist looks through a slit lamp while a young patient rests her chin in the frame

Eye exams, with a doctor of optometry

A thorough exam,
explained as we go.

Forty-five unhurried minutes with an optometrist. We check how clearly you see, how your eyes work together and how healthy they are, then tell you what we found in plain words.

What happens in 45 minutes.

Nothing happens without an explanation first. If we recommend dilating drops, we’ll tell you why and how long they last.

0-5 min

History & how you use your eyes

Screens, driving at night, reading, sports, headaches, family eye history and any medications. It shapes the prescription we write.

5-15 min

Vision & refraction

Letter charts and the phoropter, the “which is clearer, one or two?” part, to find your most comfortable prescription for distance and near.

15-25 min

Eye teaming & focusing

How your eyes move and work together, how well they focus up close, color vision and depth perception when needed.

25-35 min

Eye pressure & front of the eye

A quick pressure check and a slit lamp look at your eyelids, cornea and lens to screen for conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts.

35-40 min

Retina & optic nerve

Retinal imaging or dilating drops so your doctor can see the back of the eye. Images are saved so we can compare them year to year.

40-45 min

Your results, in plain words

What we found, your prescription, whether anything needs watching or a referral, and when to come back. Then, if you like, the frame wall.

Four exams. Prices before insurance.

Nearsighted kids: options, explained.

Nearsightedness often increases through childhood. Specialty soft contact lenses, myopia-management spectacle lenses and low-dose atropine eye drops may slow that progression for some children. None of them stops myopia completely, and results vary.

A baseline exam with eye-length and prescription tracking

A plain comparison of options, costs and follow-up visits

Check-ins every 6 months to see how it’s going

Dr. Hana Sato leads our myopia management program. Your doctor will explain whether any option is appropriate for your child.

Five things for a smooth visit.

Questions, we like them

When it can’t wait

Some eye symptoms are emergencies.

Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room right away for sudden vision loss, a sudden shower of new floaters or flashes of light, a dark curtain across your vision, a chemical splash or eye injury, or a painful red eye with nausea.

For urgent problems that aren’t emergencies, a scratchy eye, a lost contact lens, a broken frame, call us during opening hours and we’ll fit you in the same day when we can.
